Farm Guidelines
Practical
advice for everyone milking cows - the complete guidelines are available on-line
- you can also buy a print-copy from your advisers. Make sure it's available for
everyone on your milking team to use
The core of the Countdown
Downunder program is a consistent set of "best practice" mastitis
control and milk quality guidelines.
The guidelines cover each period
of the cow’s milking year:
- what has to be done;
- why it should be done;
- how to do it;
- how to check that it has been
achieved.
The authors Pauline Brightling,
Graeme Mein, Jakob Malmo and Diane Ryan consulted with over 50 veterinarians,
other advisers and farmers throughout Australia to ensure the guidelines truly
reflected best practice.
They are detailed in the
Countdown Downunder: Farm Guidelines for Mastitis Control, available from
the dairy processors or your local vet at a cost of $21.60. Or you can purchase a copy directly by filling out this order
form.
You can also view the Guidelines
on-line. It's a large document - over 120 pages and is presented on this site as
a 1.7 Mb Acrobat file. The file contains a hyperlinked table of contents and
index.
In addition to the full document
we have also provided an extract - the first 28 pages in a smaller, 350 kb file.
Both files can only be viewed
using an Adobe Acrobat viewer. If you don't have one click

The Guidelines are underpinned by
the Technotes
- a comprehensive manual for farm adviser.
The Technotes document the
rationale behind each Farm Guideline recommendation and its scientific context,
and provide practical tips and key references for further reading.
